Junior League of Tulsa volunteers visited five elementary schools last week to help orchestrate Operation Family Fun events.
TULSA--Last week, members of the Junior League of Tulsa held Operation Family Fun events at five elementary schools.
The dozens of Junior League members arrived at the schools (Grove, McAuliffe, Eugene Field, Mark Twain and Marshall Elementary Schools) to play board games with the youngsters, to lead them through face-painting activities, and to treat them to pizza and drinks and door prizes.
Family care kits and board games were given to the children.
“This is part of our efforts to reach out,” Shea Eby, vice president of community programs for the league, said, “as our volunteer corps builds relationships and provides quality family time.”
Mrs. Eby said the 800-member league sponsored an event last year that led to last week’s events.
In 2009, the group held a Family Enrichment Night at Cooper Elementary School.
“This year, we wanted to take the concept to a higher level,” she commented.
The project is part of a partnership with the Tulsa Area Community Schools Initiative, Sarah Dougherty, vice president of the Tulsa Junior League’s Community Council, added.
